OpenID is a way to logon to many different websites with one 'username' and password. The username, however, is a little different. Instead of 'bob' or 'kitten411', you use something like unripped.com/bob or kitten411.example.com. You'll notice these look like website addresses (URLs), and that's exactly what they are.

To use OpenID, you need one of two things:

1. an OpenID provider (like Unripped) that can give you an URL or
2. your own URL that you know how to edit.

Once you have an OpenID, you just need to find some sites that support it. There are many of them now. These directories list OpenID-enabled websites: yahoo, openid.net, etc. Or just look for icons like this on sites you want to login or register for: {logo}

When you enter your OpenID into these sites, you'll be redirected to your OpenID provider for authentication. Once you're authenticated, you'll be sent back to the original site and be ready to go.
